Own Miles

Privacy policy

Last updated October 18, 2026

Own Miles collects nothing about you. There's no account, no server, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Your trips are yours, kept on your devices and, if you turn on sync, in your own private iCloud.

Who we are

Own Miles is made by IndieDeveloperJ LLC ("we", "us"), an independent app developer in Arizona, USA. This policy covers the Own Miles apps, their widgets, and this website.

What stays on your iPhone

The mileage log: each trip's times, route, distance, start and end place names, purpose and notes, plus each trip's edit history, your vehicles, saved places like home and work, odometer readings, rules, mileage rates and settings. It's stored in the app on your device. We can't see it.

Location and motion

Own Miles uses your location to notice when a drive starts, measure it and record where it starts and ends. With Always access it does this without you opening the app. It uses motion to tell a drive from a walk or a bike ride. Neither leaves your device, except for the Apple Maps lookups below.

Apple services the app uses

  • Apple Maps. To name the places a drive starts and ends, and to find home and work when you search during setup, the app sends a coordinate or your search text to Apple Maps. Maps on screen are also drawn by Apple. Apple handles this under its privacy policy and doesn't link it to your Apple Account.
  • iCloud. When sync is on, your log and settings are kept in your iCloud account so your other devices can see them. Only you can read it; we can't.
  • App Store. Apple handles buying Own Miles Pro. The app only learns whether you have Pro, never your payment details.
  • Apple Watch and widgets. The iPhone sends your Watch the drive in progress and this month's totals directly. Widgets read a summary the app saves on the same iPhone.

Crash reports

If you turn on Share With App Developers in your iPhone's Settings, under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements, Apple sends us anonymous crash and energy reports. They contain no trips or locations. It's off unless you turn it on.

Exports

A PDF log or CSV is made only when you tap Export, and goes only where you send it, such as Mail, Files or your accountant.

Deleting your data

In the app, Settings, Data, Delete all data removes everything on this device, and in iCloud when sync is on. Deleting the app deletes the log on that device. If sync is on, delete the copy in iCloud from your iPhone's Settings, under your name, iCloud, Manage Account Storage.

This website

ownmiles.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. It's served by Cloudflare, which processes basic request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

When you email us

If you write to us, including to join the beta, we receive what you send and your email address, and use them only to answer you and, for the beta, to send the invite and one launch note. We delete them on request.

Children

Own Miles isn't directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. A change that would collect anything will never apply to trips you've already logged. Questions: [email protected].
